Root Cause Failure Analysis
RCFA to include grease, oil, and debris extraction from the failed components, cleaning of surfaces, disassembly of components, inspection and magnification of surfaces, and identification of wear, damage, and defects. Analysis includes a complete root-cause failure report and recommendations for further monitoring and corrective actions. Photos of failed components and analysis are included in report.
Oil Filter Analysis
Filter Analysis Includes:
  • Visual inspection and imaging of filter media
  • Flushing filter with blank oil to collect particles
  • Disassembly of filter including cutting in half
  • Inspection and imaging of bisected filter
  • Microscopic inspection and imaging of filter media
  • Elemental analysis of particles from filter suspended in blank oil
  • Analytical Ferrography of oil from filter
  • Oil analysis including FTIR, water concentration, absolute viscosity in cSt will be performed if method allows

Grease Compatibility Testing – Phase 1
Phase 1 compatibility testing includes preparation of a 50:50 mixture of two greases being investigated using a mod version of ASTM D6185. The Mixture is then worked, along with the sample of each of the neat greases, in a bearing test-stand for 72 hours, and then analyzed via rheological analysis to measure changes in the grease mixture. If the 50:50 mixture fails the Phase 1 testing, further testing is stopped, and the report is issued. One tube of grease is required for the testing.
Grease Compatibility Testing – Phase 2

Additional testing of 90/10 and 10/90 grease mixtures. These additional mixtures will also be worked in a bearing test-stand for 72 hours, and subject to the same rheological testing of the phase 1 greases in order to asses changes in the mixtures outside of what would be expected from mixing.

Oil Compatibility Study
Oil compatibility testing between two different gear oil products. Testing will be conducted on both neat oils, as well as a binary mixture in a ratio that is most representative of the expected mixture ratio in-service, and will include kinematic viscosity, filterability, foaming, RDE elemental analysis and FTIR
spectroscopy. About 1 gallon of each neat oil is required for the testing.
Grease Thief Check Standards

GT Check standards intended for FerroQ verification in testing geometry. Grease Thief check standards include a Blank, Low, Medium, and High standard to cover the range of instrument operation. Standards come labeled with target value and the acceptable range with a certificate of conformance.
