The Root Cause Failure Analysis Kit
Use Root-Cause Failure Analysis to investigate the root-cause of a malfunction or failure of a piece of equipment. Evidence from the grease/oil of the machine is carefully and thoroughly examined to find the cause. The analysis will provide a timeline highlighting key events during a failure and will provide useful information for preventing future incidents, saving you time and money. The Filter Analysis Kit
The Grease Thief Filter Kit allows for collection of a filter from an oil system in a manner that will not contaminate/damage the filter or allow for the oil to leak out in transit. The kit includes sample bottles for collecting oil from the system and the baseline sample. The kit will work for canister and spin-on filters. See details below.

The GT Colorimeter
GT Colorimeter – A portable, battery-operated, and bluetooth enabled analysis instrument that allows for accurate and repeatable measurement of grease color under varying pathlength and controlled ambient lighting conditions. The GT Colorimeter is equally effective in the laboratory and in the field, providing immediate information on the condition of in-service greases, or product floor quality control for process evaluation and improvement
Features:
- Four precision spacers, made from steel, allow a specific pathlength to be created by engaging and squeezing the grease between a spectrometer sample window and an opposing reflective flat surface (0.000 inch, 0.035 inch, 0.010 inch, and 0.005 inch positioning spacers)
- Can measure a broad range of grease colors for comparison to a reference new grease due to various precision spacers
- Criteria for action can be generated with values that are grease and/or application specific
- QC evaluation allows for development of a target color for the manufacture of new greases and analysis and plotting of results for batches to ensure conformation to expected product color
- Spectrometer uses USB power cord to recharge periodically
- Secured in a hard-sided case for shipment and protective storage
Evaluation and Results
- Control of and results from the spectrometer are transferred via Bluetooth to the spectrometer app
- App allows for used sample comparison to the designated new grease reference, and as a quality-control measured parameter for new product evaluation
- Results can be copied or uploaded to a cloud-based database for incorporation into user’s report generation or data storage protocols
GT Colorimeter 3.1 Upgrades:
- Advanced colorimeter detector that permits multiple light source configurations and allows individual parameter measurements (L*, a* and b*)
- New flatter cuvette cell that allows for grease, liquid oil, or coolant analysis!
- Criteria can be developed for ASTM D1500 for an objective color analysis without operator visual bias or ambient lighting variations

The FerroQ Ferrous Debris Measurement for Grease Thief® Standard Pricing
The Grease Thief FerroQ is a simple tool for measuring the ferrous debris level present in grease samples gathered and submitted in a Grease Thief sampler per ASTM D7718. The Grease Thief containing the sample to be measured in placed into the opening and a measurement is triggered upon full insertion. Sample results are produced in less than 10 seconds, and can be transferred by data cable or Bluetooth wirelessly. The unit can be powered by a 12VDC power supply or a battery source. Unit is calibrated using multi-level Grease Thief standards across the measurement range. The unit automatically senses and selects the appropriate high- or low-range sensing circuit for accurate measurement for both low levels and up to the upper limit of 200,000 ppm. Can be coupled with the Grease Thief Colorimeter for a GT Mini-Lab solution that provides measurable values for comparison to criteria that can be established for both grease condition and machine wear.
