Pillow Block Bearing Grease Sampling Kit

The Pillow Block Bearing Grease Sampling Kit includes 8 Grease Thief® sample fittings to be used to obtain representative and repeatable samples from shaft line bearings such as pillow block bearings and other locations without a purge drain path. The double sided spatula is used to scrape away dirty grease and then the clean end is used to obtain 1 gram or more of representative grease. The grease is then loaded into the GT Filler and the GT Filler is used to completely fill the Grease Thief®. The capped Grease Thief® is placed into the shipping tube and the completed equipment label is affixed to the tube.

Electric Motor Grease Sampling Kit

Sampling Kit includes 10 Grease Thief® sampling fittings to be used to obtain representative and repeatable samples from electric motor drains and other equipment outfitted with a 1/8 inch NPT threaded grease purge drain path. The drain plug is removed from the equipment, and the sample fitting is threaded in its place. After proper greasing, purged grease enters the fitting where it is captured for analysis. When sufficiently full, the fitting is unscrewed from the drain and capped. The capped Grease Thief® is placed into the shipping tube and the equipment label is affixed to the tube.

The MOV Grease Sampling Kit

Sampling Kit includes 8 Grease Thief® type 2 sample fittings to be used to obtain representative and repeatable samples from Motor Operated Valves (MOVs) and other grease lubricated gearboxes.  Used in conjunction with a T-Handle extension rod, the stinger probe of the Grease Thief® sample fitting allows the sampler to pass by grease in the gearbox that is not representative of the condition of the gearbox. When the stinger probe contacts the gear surface, it is depressed into the cylinder of the sampler, drawing in the grease that is directly adjacent to the gears. After the sampler is withdrawn from the gearbox, it is unscrewed from the T-Handle extension rod or Double Extension T-Handle and capped. The capped Grease Thief® is placed into the shipping tube and the completed equipment label is affixed to the tube.

The Wind Turbine Grease Sampling Kit

Sampling Kit includes 8 Grease Thief® sample fittings to be used to obtain representative and repeatable samples from main, pitch, yaw and generator bearings on a wind turbine. Each sleeve includes a spatula to first scrape away dirty grease with one end, and then the other end is used to obtain 1 gram or more of representative grease. The grease is then loaded into the open end of the filler (also included), and the filler piston is reinserted. The grease is then extruded from the filler into the Grease Thief®, which is then capped. The capped Grease Thief® is placed into the shipping tube and the equipment label is affixed to the tube.

The Helicopter Grease Sampling Kit

Sampling Kit includes 8 Grease Thief® sample sleeves that each contain: 1 Grease Thief® Type 1 sampler, 1 spatula, 1 two-part GT Filler, and one shipping tube with label.

The Grease Thief® sample fittings are used to obtain representative and repeatable samples from greased components found in helicopter drivetrains.  This kit was designed specifically for Boeing to support a sampling program for the H-47 Chinook fleet, and is capable of representatively sampling the swashplates, hanger bearings and drive splines with minimal sample loss and effective quantitative transfer to the sampler.

Each sleeve includes a spatula to first scrape away dirty grease with the broader spoon-end, then the other narrow end is used to obtain 1 gram or more of representative grease. This is then loaded into the opened GT Filler funnel, and the GT Filler plunger is inserted. A Grease Thief® is inserted into the GT Filler taper to be snugly held, and the grease is then extruded by depressing the plunger into the GT Filler funnel.  Once the Grease Thief® is filled, it is then removed from the GT Filler, and the open end is capped.  The filled Grease Thief® is then placed into the shipping tube and the barcode label is affixed to the tube.  

The Wind Turbine Hybrid Kit

Sampling Kit contains: 4 wind turbine sleeves, 2 4-ounce oil bottles, MRG Navigator barcode labels, sampling instruction cards and a bubble mailer. Each wind turbine sleeve includes: 1 syringe with cap. 1 Grease Thief® Type 1 sampler, 1 spatula and one shipping tube with label.

The Grease Thief® samplers are used to obtain representative and repeatable grease samples from main, pitch, yaw, and generator bearings on a wind turbine. The double-sided spatula is used to scrape away dirty grease and then the clean end is used to obtain 1 gram or more of representative grease. The grease is then loaded into the syringe and the syringe is used to completely fill the Grease Thief®. Alternatively, a plastic T-Handle (sold separately as a reusable tool) can be used to set a target depth within the housing to core a representative sample close to the bearing/gear and live-zone grease area. The capped Grease Thief® is placed into the shipping tube and the barcode label is affixed to the tube.

Prior to shipment, customers have the ability to log the equipment information and barcode into the online web portal, MRG Navigator. The real-time sample status and analysis results may be viewed through MRG Navigator.

The Grease Thief® Slim Grease Sampling Kit

The Grease Sampler Kit-Grease Thief Slim includes 10 Grease Thief® sample fittings, straws, pistons, caps, shipping tubes, labels & user instructions. Allows sampling from narrow openings as small as 0.28″ diameter clearance.

The Robot Grease Sampling Kit

The Robot Grease Sampling Kit contains six (6) robot sampling sleeves that each contain: 1 syringe, 1 Grease Thief® Type 1 without purge hole, and one shipping tube with label. Each kit can be used to completely sample all joints on a single robot, or to sample selected joints on several robots.

Sampler Kit includes 38 sampling GT Slim tubes, 36-5ml vials with caps for Ferrous Debris level analysis & 1 set of user instructions. The Grease Thief Slim Kit

Sampler Kit includes 10 Grease Thief® sample fittings, tubes, pistons, caps, shipping vials, labels & user instructions. The volume sampled in the long tube is transferred to the Grease Thief® which is capped and placed into the shipping vial and the equipment label is affixed to the vial.

The Pillow Block Bearing Grease Sampling & Screening Analysis Kit

The Pillow Block Bearing Grease Sampling & Grease Cleanliness Analysis Kit includes 8 Grease Thief® sample fittings to be used to obtain representative and repeatable samples from new containers, grease guns, autolubers, equipment, etc. The grease is then loaded into the specially designed GT Filler, and it’s plunger is placed in the filled funnel to transfer the sampled grease completely to fill the Grease Thief®, which is then capped. Alternatively, the grease could be pumped directly from a grease gun into the GT Filler, and it’s plunger is placed in the filled funnel to transfer the sampled grease completely to fill the Grease Thief®. The capped Grease Thief® is placed into the shipping tube and the provided barcode label is affixed to the tube. The sample is sent to the laboratory for particle counting and moisture analysis testing per ASTM D7918.

In some cases, it may be helpful to use the Plastic T-handle tool to obtain certain samples.  The Grease Thief® is attached to the T-handle, which allows insertion of the Grease Thief® in the closed position into a machine opening or a grease reservoir, to a pre-determined depth, which the sliding tube of the T-handle is pushed forward to ‘core’ the grease sample from the target area. After the sampler is withdrawn, it is unscrewed from the T-Handle extension rod, capped, and placed in a clean, labeled shipping tube for shipment to the laboratory. It is also possible to use the Pick Pocket to sample in the same manner, using the Pick Pocket Tool to ‘core’ the sample. 

NOTE: T-Handle extension rod or the Pick Pocket Tool are required for this and are sold separately.

Grease Sampler Adjustable T-Handle

The Adjustable T-Handle, when used in conjunction with the Grease Thief® sampler, is designed to enter through a drain plug or access port to core a grease sample from a bearing, gearbox, or other grease lubricated component. The device is locked to a set depth and inserted into the component housing, pushing through the bulk, non-representative grease, and actuated at the set depth to core a sample. This ensures the sample is representative of the equipment condition. Once the core depth has been set, the tool can be used to repeatably take the sample from a controlled sample depth, bypassing the non-representative grease sitting in the housing. After it is withdrawn from the gearbox or bearing, the Grease Thief® is unscrewed from the T-handle, capped, and placed in a clean, labeled sample bottle for shipment to the laboratory. The T-handle can be wiped clean and re-used for subsequent samples.

Grease Sampler Metal Double Extension T-Handle

The Double Extension T-handle is used in conjunction with the Grease Sampler Kits for MOV/Gearboxes  to obtain representative and repeatable samples from Motor Operated Valves (MOVs) and other internal grease lubricated gearboxes and components.  The stainless steel double extension T-Handle is a set depth sampling tool allowing the operator to control the depth of the sampling point. The double extension T-handle is threaded to receive the Grease Thief® fitting, and is used to activate the “stinger” probe when it contacts the component surface to be sampled. The double extension T-Handle provides additional control for grabbing a representative sample by allowing the mechanic to activate when the stinger compresses on or near the gear. The stinger probe allows the sampler to pass by grease in the gearbox that is not representative of the condition of the gearbox. When the stinger probe contacts the gear or bearing surface, it is depressed into the cylinder of the sampler, drawing in the grease that is directly adjacent to the gears. After the sampler is withdrawn from the gearbox, it is unscrewed from the extension T-handle, capped, and placed in a clean, labeled sample bottle for shipment to the laboratory. The stainless steel extension T-handle can be wiped clean and re-used for subsequent samples. 

Set of 3 Threaded Grease Bellow Traps
Allows for continuous collection of grease as it is expelled from the bearing. Each trap holds up to 475 ml. A 1/4″ NPT female thread allows connection to a threaded drain with a properly sized pipe nipple. Bellows trap can be sealed with the enclosed plug and shipped to MRG Labs for analysis (or check with your own lab for grease analysis capabilities).

Pick-Pocket PB Sleeves – Box of 15
Sampling sleeve used to obtain a representative sample from locations without a purge drain path. The double sided spatula is used to scrape away dirty grease and then the clean end is used to obtain 1 gram or more of representative grease. The grease is then loaded into the Grease Thief® Filler, which is then used to completely fill the Pick Pocket. The Pick Pocket is then placed into the vial and capped, and the barcode label is attached to the vial. Each sleeve contains supplies to take one grease sample.
